About Me

Dr. Emily Hanna

Licensed Clinical Psychologist | Anxiety & OCD Specialist
Ann Arbor, MI | California | PSYPACT-participating states

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and licensed clinical social worker who specializes in evidence-based treatment for anxiety, OCD, and related disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. I provide in-person therapy at her Ann Arbor, Michigan office, as well as online therapy for clients in California and PSYPACT-participating states.

I received extensive, specialized training in anxiety and OCD treatment, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard therapy for OCD. I earned my Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan and completed my clinical internship at Michigan Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry where I worked with children and families experiencing anxiety and mood disorders. There, I was also trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Habit Reversal Training (HRT) for body-focused repetitive behaviors, and Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT).

I then earned my Doctor of Psychology from Pepperdine University, during which I completed a two-year training in treating severe presentations of OCD at the UCLA Child OCD Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). I then completed my predoctoral residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), providing care across outpatient and inpatient psychiatric settings. At URMC, I was a clinician with the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) Program, an evidence-based, parent-focused treatment for childhood anxiety, which I continue to offer to families.

I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at the OCD & Anxiety Program of Southern California, where I had the privilege to be trained with clinicians from the Bergen 4-Day Treatment (B4DT) Clinic at Haukeland University Hospital (Bergen, Norway). I am a certified provider of the B4DT for OCD and am passionate about providing condensed treatment options to clients.

My treatment approach is collaborative, structured, and compassionate. I work closely with clients and families to create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that support meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to help clients return to living engaged and fulfilling lives.

Consultation & Supervision

For pre-licensed social workers and psychologists

Note: I offer a complimentary, brief phone consult to get a sense of how I may be of help. From there, we either schedule an evaluation, or I will provide referrals if another type of service may be more appropriate. During the evaluation, we will discuss what level of care (outpatient or intensive outpatient) would be most beneficial.

What is Intensive Outpatient Treatment?

I offer customized intensive treatment options for individuals with OCD and anxiety disorders. This format is designed for clients while taking a short break from work, school, or other responsibilities and are motivated to engage in multiple days of focused exposure-based therapy for accelerated progress.

Intensive treatment is highly individualized and tailored to each client’s needs, goals, and availability. Treatment may include extended therapy sessions over consecutive days, with a strong emphasis on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and skills practice both in and outside of sessions. This approach allows clients to build momentum, deepen learning, and apply strategies more quickly than in traditional weekly therapy.

Intensive treatment may be a good fit for individuals who:

  • Want to make meaningful progress in a shorter period of time

  • Have time-limited availability (e.g., school breaks, medical leave, or time off from work)

  • Are struggling despite prior or ongoing weekly therapy

  • Prefer a focused, immersive treatment experience

The structure, length, and pacing of the intensive are collaboratively planned to ensure treatment remains effective, supportive, and sustainable.
